Talal & Mr D Foundation is a global charity committed to supporting children living with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D), especially those in underserved communities.

We want to offer families around the world the tools, guidance and emotional support they need to transform fear into confidence, illness into empowerment.

We believe every child, wherever they are born, deserves the chance to grow up strong, confident and full of possibility.

Our Story

A Message From Rawan, Talal’s mother

My name is Rawan. Everything you see in this foundation began with one moment – the day my son Talal was diagnosed with T1D at just nine years old. No parent is ever prepared for that moment. I wasn’t. I remember holding his small hands, pretending to be strong while my heart was breaking.

But children have a way of teaching us strength.

Talal did that for me.

He faced every finger prick, every scan, every sleepless night with courage I didn’t know a child could have. And it opened my eyes to something bigger: there are thousands of children like him, but not all of them have the same support, tools or knowledge to live safely.

That thought never left me.

So, the Talal & Mr D Foundation was born – not from an idea, but from a mother’s promise.

A promise that no child living with T1D should feel alone, confused or afraid.

A promise that all families, especially those in less-advantaged countries, should have access to education, to life-saving medical tools, to support – to hope.

I chose ‘Mr D’ to characterise T1D in an effort to turn a serious, frightening-sounding condition into a friendlier, more approachable one – one that doesn’t induce pity or sorrow but inspires strength and resilience.

Mr D, our wise yet light-hearted guide, offers children a friend who understands their journey, someone who makes the scary parts feel a little less so. Through stories, videos, educational resources and awareness building, he helps us reach hearts, as well as minds. Alon the provision of glucose-monitoring devices to those in need, we hope.

If our work helps even one child feel safer, one parent feel less alone, then his journey becomes a gift to the world. I’m so proud of Talal. He’s changed me and continues to inspire me – Talal’s my hero.

Millions of children worldwide lack access to essential diabetes monitoring tools.

We provide:

  • GSM-enabled glucose monitoring devices
  • Supplies and support for families in low-resource countries
  • Partnerships with global health organisations

For many children, these devices are not just helpful, they are lifesaving.

Empowering Families through Education

With the help of our friendly mascot Mr D and our young hero Talal, we explain Type 1 Diabetes in a way children can understand, relate to – and even enjoy!
